solar water heater

A typical household solar heating system consists of a solar panel with a heat transfer fluid flowing through it to transport the heat energy collected to where it will be useful. It can go into a hot water tank from where hot water can be distributed to different rooms needing it. It will be made available in the kitchen for cooking and washing needs. It should also be available in the bathrooms for hot showers and baths. Some households can even use it to heat the water in their swimming pools.

A solar water heater can be as simple as one that would heat water directly in the collectors. Gravity takes care of distributing it to where it will be used. This system is cheap and easy to build. Materials are easily available in local hardware stores. There are more sophisticated systems that make use of sensors, switches and motors to operate the system. These are naturally more expensive to set up. The benefits that can be gleaned from these systems should be weighed against the cost of setting them up.
