We are right now at a critical point when there is an inadequate supply of water. With the rains not expected soon we can expect the situation to worsen before it gets better. We are being asked to limit our use of water including water conservation gardening, which we try to do. There are ways that we can apply to help conserve water in our backyard gardens. By publishing them we can help conserve water in our little way.

Some hobbyists start by choosing plants that thrive in dry conditions. Xerophytes, as these plants are called, will not require very much watering. An example of a xerophyte is cactus. Watering in the early morning reduces the loss of water from evaporation. Putting mulching materials on the soil to retain water is also a big help.
