wind turbines

It looks like the windmill that Don Quixote de la Mancha attacked as an imaginary enemy. But in this modern day of wind turbines, he could not have “tilted at windmills”. These tubular steels tower from 200 to 300 feet tall. Modern wind turbines used in wind farms for electric power production have high tip speeds of over 200 miles per hour. They are highly efficient and very reliable.

For residential application, a wind turbine is installed on top of a tall tower. It collects kinetic energy from the wind and converts it to electricity that is compatible with the home’s electrical system. It will definitely lower the electricity bill. However, it is a relatively large device and is not suitable for urban or suburban homes. So, before running off to find an installer, consider the economics of setting up one or buying electricity.
