How does bioremediation work

Bioremediation is the completely safe and natural process of cleaning up organic contaminants through the use of microbes. How does bioremediation work? The processes vary in their methods of remediation.

Depending on the location of the contamination, bioremediation techniques can either be applied to:~Surface and subsurface – which deals with contaminated soil down to twelve inches below ground level. In this technique, water and nutrients are added aside from tilling the soil, in order to maximize bacterial growth and begin the bioremediation process.~ Above ground – involves treatments of soils out of the given area. For instance, in slurry-phase treatment, water and the contaminated soil is initially combined and later degraded in a bioreactor. In solid-phase treatment, the contaminated soil is placed in a bed and nourished with nutrients, moisture and oxygen with the goal of decomposition.
