If you have been gardening for years, you may have a couple of trees in your garden. A tree will be a useful addition to your garden because it does not need too much tending and it is there through all seasons. Fruit trees are especially welcome because they will reward you with fruits when they are in season. Even when they are not ready to bear fruits, trees provide a shade under which you can grow plants that are sensitive to too much sunlight. Yes, trees can be an important part of your garden landscape.
Consider gardening a hobby and not a chore. It may involve a lot of work, especially in the preparation of the soil but think of it as a means to exercise. Even if you do actual planting in the spring, gardening should really be on your mind the whole year. Start composing in the summer. Collect mulch materials throughout the year. You can also start thinking of your garden design even in the wintertime.
