Even though the weather outside may be frightful, it is a good time to do a little winter gardening. Planning ahead now can make your garden look spectacular come spring. Here are a few little projects that will give you a little color in your cheeks as you partake of the brisk winter air.
Now is a great time to pick out and plant fruit trees, shrubs, flowering and shade trees. Most nurseries will be getting their trees in about now and you will get the cream of the crop. Also if you plant your trees now there will be little set-back since they are currently in their dormant state.
This is also a wonderful time to start planting roses, evergreens, evergreen shrubs and deciduous shrubs. Just make sure the temperature is above freezing.
Even though its too late to prune spring flowering trees and shrubs this is a great time to prune your other fruit, flowering, and shade trees. Roses need pruning in order to be at their best later on. Also make sure that you are not pruning for prunings sake. Make sure you prune only plants that need it for better light exposure, shaping, to remove disease, or thinning.
