Pretty on the Eyes, Bad on the Plants

Most of the gardens I’ve seen have very nice trellises. A trellis, in architecture, refers to an interwoven piece of wood, bamboo or metal. It is often made to support climbing plants like grapevines and ivy. There are many kinds of trellises that are used for specific kinds of plants to ensure that the plants grow big and strong.

Metal trellises are typically ornate. Though they may be very nice to look at, they are not that suitable for many plants that have vines. When the sun hits the metal, it becomes very hot. This may stunt the growth of the plants, or it may kill them totally. For more sensitive vine plants like beans and morning glories, wood is the better choice for a trellis.
