Creating a nature habitat will help to attract more birds for your enjoyment. It will also benefit the ecosystem surrounding your home. You can plan to build your own wooden birdhouses because they are really not that difficult to do. It can be made from scrap wood leftover from earlier projects. Come to think of it, it is just a box with a hole on one side.

But there are things to be considered. For example, the size of the box as well as the hole will determine the species of birds that will come to visit. A hinged roof or side wall will allow for easy inspection and clean-up. A hole on the floor will allow for drainage if water gets into the feeder. Adding a metal plate over the entrance hole will keep squirrels and woodpeckers from enlarging the hole to get at nests.
