Purple martins are beautiful and graceful birds. They are much sought after by people who love having feathered visitors in their backyards. These birds are also very beneficial as they are said to eat thousands of mosquitoes in one day. They can be found in just about every state in the US.

Purple martins are best known for communal nesting in human built bird apartments. They also favor open areas where they can have good foraging opportunities. If you want to attract them, put up purple martin houses in your yard. Mount these 15 to 20 feet above the ground and near a permanent water source.
