bird baths

Dirty feathers don’t serve birds well during flying or in protecting their bodies from the wind, snow, heat, and other elements. That is why bird baths are not just for personal hygiene, they may moreover be a matter of life and death. A bird’s bathing action is more of a light shower rather than soaking.
Birds like wading into water only a few inches deep and bend a bit to get their undersides wet while moving their beak back and forth. After taking a bath, birds usually fly to a safe perch to preen. As they do so, they smooth and rearrange the feathers while removing dirt and insects that may have stuck to their bodies.
