There are several means to attract birds to nest in our yard. One is to set up good bird houses. Another is to put bird feeders that provide food for the birds. They can be made of recycled plastic wood, aluminum, ceramic or resin. They are available in different types depending on what type of birds you want to attract.

The following are the basic kinds of bird feeders:

~Hopper feeders – can hold lots of seed; small and large birds can land and comfortably eat together
~Tube feeders – long cylinder with perches at feeding ports; good for small birds only because they have openings just large enough to fit sunflower seeds
~Platform feeders – can be mounted, hung or just placed on the ground; best for ground feeding birds like sparrows, doves and juncos
